NFL Update!
The NFL Combine was this weekend and was full of exciting action happenings. Over Saturday and Sunday there were some players that really impressed the scouts.
1. Golden Tate WR- Tate is from the University of Notre Damn. He lived up to all expectation. He ran 4.42 40 -yard dash, put up 17 reps of 225 pounds of the bench press, and had a broad jump of 10 feet. He really reminds me of Steve Smith WR of the Carolina Panthers. Tate is only 5’10 but an absolute beast because he is very tough an scrappy. He also runs good routes and can go and get the ball in traffic with his strong hands.
2. Jacoby Ford WR- Ford is a wide receiver for the University of Clemson. Ford showed that he has the blazing speed we all thought by running 4.28 40-yard dash. That is one of the fastest times ever at the combine. He also run pretty good routs, and he showed his quickness in the shuttle drill, which leads scouts to believe that he will be an explosive player in the open fields. Ford should get lots of time as a kick returner until he shows he can overcome his size deficiency.
3. Jahvid Best RB- Best is a running back out of the University of California. Best impressed scouts by running the fastest 40 time out of all the running backs on day two. Along with Best’s blazing 4.35 40, he showing his ability to catch the ball out of the back field and that he could be an amazing playmaker in the open field.
4. Bruce Campbell OL-Campbell is an offensive lineman out of the University of Maryland. Bruce Campbell is 6’6 213 pounds and ran great 4.78 forty-yard dash, and also impressing in the broad jump and vertical. This shows he has all the physical tools to be a great starter in the NFL.
5. Ndamukong Suh DT- Suh is a defensive tackle out of the University of Nebraska. He showed all of his strength and quickness performing well in the bench press, vertical jump, and shuttle drill. Suh will either be selected number one or two in this years NFL Draft!
The Combine continues this week so look forward for updates on the success and failures of the 2010 combine!

NFL Update!
Hello everyone now with the NFL playoffs in our rear view mirror we can now focus on the NFL combine and NFL draft! The NFL combine starts today with player meetings and interviews.
The combine gives college football players with dreams of playing in the NFL a chance to show their skills to all the NFL coaches and general managers. Depending on what position a player plays will determine what kind of drills they will compete in.
For quarterbacks they will need to show that they can make all the NFL throws and be very accurate at the same time. But most importantly for quarterbacks they need to excel in the player coach meetings. Which means that they have can read defenses, handle the pressure of the NFL, and show that they will be leaders of their football teams. Since having a franchise quarterback is the most important thing in the NFL football teams take the most care when evaluating quarterbacks.
For the skill position players on offense they have to focus on the 40 yard dash, their vertical leap, the shuttle drill showing lateral quickness, and running routes and hands drills. This shows how wide receivers can run routs to get open, catch the ball in traffic by leaping and using their hands and not trapping that ball against their chest. For running backs its shows their ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. For both it shows their straight-line speed and quickness that would allow them to make plays in the open field. The receivers and running backs also have to do bench press to show their strength and will to fight after contact.
For all defensive players the forty yard dash, bench press, shuttle drill, and other position specific drills are very important for players to do well if they want to be drafted high. For example for defensive backs and safeties have to run well in the forty yard dash, show ball skills when the ball is in the air, and show their quickness in being able to move their feet so they can stay with elite NFL receivers. Additionally safeties have to show they can help against the run and blitz the passer. Also since safeties are relied on to help against the run they need to show physicality and be able to bench press 25o pounds at least 25 times.
For defensive linemen and linebackers the bench press and shuttle is most important. The reason defensive linemen have to be strong against the run and quick off the line to get to the passer. Linebackers have to show they can play the pass be being fast enough to cover running backs and tight ends, and then physical enough to rush the pass and play the run.
Offensive linemen have to be able to show quick feet to get off the ball to black elite defensive ends, good hand technique to keep the defensive ends at bay, and enormous strength on the bench press.
The week of the NFL combine is very exciting because it is an amazing showcase of freakish physical talent. The combine provides some bases along with college film of players for teams to select them in the draft. Since the NFL draft is the most important way for teams to become better by drafting new talent, it makes the combine essential for teams to make the right evaluations so they can make their teams better i

NFL Update!
Hello everyone I’m back!
The 2010 Superbowl was one of the best games I have watched in a long time. The game was competitive all the way till the end of the fourth quarter. The Colts came out strong with their defense holding the Saints offense to only nine plays and 32 yards. Manning came out hot as well leading the colts on two scoring drives going 9 of 14 for 88 yards one touchdown and zero interceptions.
But then as the Second quarter started so did the Saints offense. Drew Brees got hot and went 10 of 11 for 111 yards leading his team for two field goals. As Drew Brees got hot so did the Saints defense, the Saints defense held Peyton Manning and the Colts offense to six plays and 15 yards. Going into halftime the score was 10 to 6 in favor of the Colts.
The second and first quarters were complete opposites, with each team winning a quarter. Going into the second half anything could happen and I was on the edge of my seat.
Starting the third quarter Sean Peyton the Saints head coach called one of the riskiest, smartest, and craziest plays in Superbowl history. He called a onside kick knowing that the colts would not be expecting it and not have their hands team on the field. The Saints some how recovered the onside kick under a huge pile of players.
The Saints then proceeded to march down field and score touchdown in only 3:19. The drive was lead by Brees who went 5 for 5 for 58 yards and Pierre Thomas who ran once for seven yards and caught the touch down pass for 16 yards. Taking the lead 13 to 10.
Then the Colts promptly can down field and answered the Saints touchdown with one of their own. Manning went 5 for 6 for 52 yards. Joseph Addai did the rest running the ball three times for 19 yards and four-yard touch down run. With the score the Colts regained the lead 17 to 13. With the score the Colts seamed to have stolen the momentum back from the Saints.
The Saints then got the kickoff with 6:15 left in the third quarter. They mounted a drive that ended up staling at the Colts 29 yard line. The Saints settled for a 47 yard field goal by Garret Hartley. Drew Brees went 4 of 5 for 29 yards. Making the score 17 to 16 with the Colts still leading.
It was then time for the Saints defense to step up if they wanted to be world champions. Step up did they ever; it started with stopping the Colts at their own 33 yard line forcing the Colts to try a 51 yard field goal. Admist some second guessing from fans the Colts went for the field goal. Matt Stover missed the field goal giving the Saints good field position.
The Saints promptly took the ball with 10:39 left in the game and came down the field and took the lead. The drive was lead by Drew Brees who went 7 for 7 with 44 yards and a touchdown. The Saints then went for two trying to make the score 24 to 17. Drew Brees dropped back and found Lance Moore. It was originally called incomplete, but Sean Peyton made another bold call challenging the play. It was reviewed and shown that Moore had the ball in his position across the goal line before the defensive back knocked it out. Sean Peyton again looked like a genius, and now with the Saints leading 24 to 17. That is when the nation felt like the upset might just happen. The crowd was going crazy, but then it was time for Peyton Manning to come back on the field.
Peyton took the ball with 5:42 left in the game and quickly started to move his team down the field. Peyton started the drive 4 for 6 for 44 yards, taking his offense to the Saints 31 yard line. That’s when the play that would change the face of the Saints franchise forever. Peyton Manning dropped back to pass and was looking to get the ball to Reggie Wayne on a short slant, but Saints corner back Tracy Porter read the route perfectly stepped in front of Wayne intercepting the ball and taking it back to the house. That’s when the country realized the upset was going to happen and the New Orleans Saints would be the Superbowl Champions.!!!!!!
After the interception the Saints were leading 31 to 17 with only 3:12 left in the game. The Saints nation went into party mode knowing their team was going to with the Superbowl after many years of being the Aints. Drew Brees and Sean Peyton have since become gods, and New Orleans has not stopped partying since!

NFL Update!
The big game is approaching fast and I can’t wait because the game should be an absolute war. This Superbowl is one of the most hyped games ever, simply because you have both number one seeds and two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
As the Saints try to win for their city in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Peyton Manning the golden boy of New Orleans will try to dissect the Saints defense and win his second Superbowl and solidify himself as the greatest quarterback of all time!
Now to get back to the task at hand which is to make my final breakdown of both teams and make my official Superbowl pick!!!
Saints offense vs. Colts defense:
The Colts defense has the job of trying to stop the highest powered offense in the league. The Saints have explosive weapons at every position on offense. The Saints offense starts with Drew Brees throwing the ball down field to the likes of Marques Colsten, Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem, Jeremy Shocky, and Reggie Bush. Colts defense is neither great against the run or pass ranking 14th and 21st respectively. But they will try to make the Saints run the ball. Then try to get pressure on Drew Brees because if they don’t Brees will pick them apart. But the saints need to stay balanced and run the ball with Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas because they need to control the ball and keep Peyton Manning and the colts offense off the field. With Dwight Freeney hobbled with a 3rd degree ankle sprain I don’t think the colts defense will have much success stopping the Saints offense. With all that being said the Saints should put 30 plus points on the board.
Colts offense vs. Saints defense:
Darren Sharper and the Saints defense has to try and slow down Peyton Manning and the Colts offense. That will be a very tough challenge for them to do since Peyton Manning is the best quarterback in the NFL and the Saints struggle so much against the pass ranking 25th in the NFL. Gregg Williams the Saints defensive coordinator is a very aggressive play caller and his defense relies on the turnover to be successful. So for the Saints defense to have any success on Sunday they will need to pressure Manning with Sedrick Ellis and Will Smith and then create turnovers. I do think that the Colts will need to run the ball with Joseph Addai to keep the Saints honest. In the end there is no way that the Saints defense will be able to stop Peyton Manning for four quarter, and they will put up 30 plus points just like the Saints offense.
Special Teams:
The third aspect of the game that is most often over looked. Both Teams have solid field Goal Kickers. The Saints acquired Garret Hartley in week 13 and he is 9 of 11 on the year but all of his makes are less than 40 yards. He has missed his only attempt from over 50 yards. The field goal kicker Adam Vinitari is hurt with a groin injury so Matt Stover is taking his place. He has stepped up making 9 of 11 and 2 for 2 on kicks over 40 yards. I would then give the slightest edge to Matt Stover and the Colts.
The punters of both teams are very good. The Colts punter is Pat McAfee and he averages 44.3 yards per punt with a long of 60. The Saints punter is Thomas Morstead and he averages 43.6 yards per punt with a long of 60. Both of these punters won’t be on the field much if at all so neither team gets the advantage here.
Finally the punt and kickoff returners have a great chance to have an impact on the game with two high powered offenses. The Saints use the ever explosive Reggie Bush on punts and Courtney Roby on kick returns. Reggie Has three touchdown returns on the season with one coming in the Divisional round versus the Cardinals. Courtney Roby has played a big role returning many kicks across midfield this postseason!
The Colts have Chad Simpson returning kickoffs and T.J. Rushing having the punting duties. Neither one has played a big role this postseason, and only Chad Simpson has had a return for a touchdown. I don’t think either one will play a big role in Sunday’s Superbowl. So in this respect its not even close Reggie Bush and the Saints have the edge in special teams.
Now I hope you all have a great time watching the Superbowl on Sunday. Get your soda, beer, chips and salsa, chicken wings, pizza and whatever else you need to watch because it will be action packed and one hell of a game. Now its time I make my prediction and I say WHO DAT WHO DAT GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS!!!!
NOBODY GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS. SAINTS WIN 34 TO 31!!!!!!!!!!!!

Early Super Bowl prediction post

NFL Update!
As you all know the Superbowl is coming up this Sunday featuring the two best teams in the NFL. The New Orleans Saints come to Miami representing the NFC and the Indianapolis Colts come in representing the AFC. Both the Saints and the Colts are considered to be the best two teams in the NFL the entire season. I will be giving some background for why both teams have made it this far and what my early prediction for the Superbowl is.
The Saints went 13-0 to start the season locking up their division the NFC South and securing the number one seed and home field advantage for the playoffs. The Saints then proceeded to loose motivation and loosing to the Tampa bay Buccaneers one of the worst teams in the league. After loosing their chance to go 16-0 and obtaining the perfect record they decided to rest their starters and finish the regular season 13-3. The Saints had a first round bye and then played the Arizona Cardinals who they blew out 45-14 advancing to the NFC Championship game. Where they played the Minnesota Vikings who where the number two seed and after blowing out the Cowboys in the Divisional round were considered the favorites but the Saints persevered and caused six turnovers that helped them reach their first ever Superbowl even after not playing their best against the Vikings.
The Colts started the season in a similar fashion by going 14-0, winning their division the AFC South and getting the number one seed as well heading into the playoffs. But then the Colts also decided to rest their starters to make sure they were healthy for the playoffs. After a first round bye they hosted the Baltimore Ravens the sported a good defense and a great running game. But Peyton Manning masterfully dissected the Ravens defense. The Colts defense also played really fast and stifled the ravens running game holding the Ravens to only 87 yards rushing. Then in the AFC Championship game they hosted the New York Jets who had just come off a huge upset of the number two seed San Diego Chargers. Coming into the Colts versus Jets game their was alot of controversy because the Colts were being labeled as the ones to let the number six seed Jets into the Playoffs! By sitting their starters after the third quarter of their week 16 game. Again in the second half Peyton Manning and the colts defense was too much for the Jets to handle, and the Colts were to be headed to their second Superbowl appearance in four years.
Both Teams are number one seeds from their respective conferences and are coming in with alot of hype and a roster filled with superstars. The Saints are playing for the city of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They a have a high powered offense with many stars at wide receiver with Marques Colston and Devery Henderson, running back with Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas, tight end with Jeremy Shockey, and not to mention Drew Brees one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. They feature a defense really struggles against the pass but thrives on creating turnovers. Their defense is 25th but have 12 interceptions and 22 fumbles. Their rush defense is 22nd in the league allowing 1955 rushing yard during the regular season. But they are ranked second in red zone total defense again relying on turnovers.
The Colts like the saints come in with the best quarterback in the league and maybe of all time Peyton Manning. They also feature a high powered offense with many stars at wide receiver with Reggie Wayne, running back with Joseph Addai, and one of the best tight ends in the NFL with Dallas Clark. Their defense plays really fast but doesn’t create nearly as many turnovers as the Saints Defense does. The Colts rank 24th against the rush allowing an average 126.5 yards per game on the ground. Against the Colts are much better than the Saints ranking 14th in the league allowing 228 yards a game.
So in al I think the Saints have the slight edge on offense. The reason being that they are more balanced and run the ball alot better than the Colts. On defense I give the slight edge to the Colts because they don’t have to rely on the turnover as much and are slightly better at stopping the pass. Even though I think both Drew Brees and Peyton Manning will have field days against each opposing secondary’s. When you don’t have to rely on turnovers to get stop the opposing offense, as much you can be more consistent on defense.
As for special teams the Saints have the clear edge because of Reggie Bush returning punts. Reggie is one of the fastest and most electrifying players in the NFL. This gives the Saints a big edge in the field position game.
Finally for my early prediction I think the game will be an offensive shootout and will be very close throughout. But the Saints will win 34-31 in an all time classic. I will be back later in the week to give u my finals pre Superbowl thought as well as a confident final prediction!
