NFL Update!
Aftermath of the NFL Combine!
The 2010 NFL Combine was very exciting and explosive. The athlete wanted to compete and show the NFL teams what they are made and why they should draft them. There were both guys that really impressed and improved their draft stock. Today I will give my three winners at the combine who in my opinion impressed the scouts the most.
Winners:
1. Taylor Mays Safety- Coming out of USC Mays was considered a physical freak at 6’3 235 pounds who was a bigger hitter and great against the run. But there were some questions about his coverage ability, if he had quick enough feet to change directions fast, and if his hips were fluid enough to cover receivers in four to five wide sets. After the combine he helped to dispel those doubts because he was as advertised a freak! Mays ran a 4.24 and 4.35 40-yard dash, had a 41 inch vertical jump, a 10.5 foot broad jump, and showed his improved feet, hip, and coverage ability in all the coverage drills!!
2. Eric Berry Safety- Eric coming out of Tennessee this year had all the scouts drooling all over him. He plays bigger than his six foot frame and is an elite cover safety and could play some corner in the NFL. At the combine Eric performed very well in the cover drills showing his quickness, ball skills, and good speed. Eric was quite a bit slower than Mays in the 40, he ran a 4.47 40 yard dash. The time is still better than most safeties, Eric all did well in the broad jump posting a distance of 10 foot 10 inches. Overall Eric improved his stock and looked up being taken in the top 10 in the draft!
3. Jahvid Best Running Back- Best played at cal in college and came out with a lot of hype. Best is a running back with average size at 5’10 200 pounds. But he is very fast and quick, and he is also willing to fight for extra yards and run between the tackles. At the combine best locked up a first round spot and is now vying to be the first running back taken in the draft along with Clemson’s CJ Spiller. Best ran 4.35 forty, showed great playmaking abilities in drills, and showed improved receiving abilities.
