NFL Update!
Hello everyone now that the NFL Combine is over we move into the free agency period before the NFL Draft. The Draft starts on the 22nd of April, which happens to be only 46 days away. Other than the NFL Draft free agency is the second best way for a team to improve their team by signing free agents.
Already in the first three days of 2010 free agency period some big name players have been signed. Julius Peppers a defensive end from the Carolina Panthers was picked up on by the Chicago Bears. The Bears have needed to improve their defensive line for a few years now. With Julius Peppers the Bears will have a player that gets great penetration in the backfield to disrupt the run, and he will get many Sacks on the quarterback, which will help the Bears secondary. Peppers was signed to a six year 91.5 million dollar contract, of which 42 million is guaranteed.
Carlos Dansby was the next major player signed through free agency. On Friday he visited the Miami Dolphins, and was rewarded with a five year 43 million dollar contract with 22 million guaranteed. Dansby is a fast versatile inside linebacker that can do everything asked of a linebacker in the NFL. He can cover tightends and running backs, and can play the run because he is very physical and a sure tackler. He will fit well with Bill Parcel’s 3-4 defense.
As a Cardinals fan I am pissed to see Dansby go, he was a no talk and action player. He was a star on our defense and it will be tough to replace him. I know he will star in Miami and go to multiple Pro Bowls. Both the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins did great jobs in picking up Julius Peppers and Carlos Dansby and will both be better teams for it!
