NFL Update!
Hello again, the NFL is currently in its only major down time of the year. The time between the combine and the draft. The only thing that NFL fans have to enjoy right now is the free agency period that is still ongoing.
In the last week two major players have been signed or traded. First ex Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme was signed by the Cleveland Browns to a two-year contract worth an estimated 14 million dollars. This deal shocked me because Delhomme is on the downside of his career and is coming off of his worst season as a pro last year. Last year he threw 18 interception and only eight touchdowns that combined to equal a 59.4 quarterback rating. I hope that Delhomme can revive his career in Cleveland. but all signs point to a sour end of his career. The reason being that the Browns are a really bad team with little offensive play makers to help Delhomme get out of his slump.
The second major deal happened today when the Browns traded their franchise quarterback Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos for fullback Jacob Hillis and two draft picks. The move showed me two things, first that the Browns are lost and will continue to be bad for many years. Because if they think Jake Delhomme gives them a better chance to win than Brady Quinn then they are sorely mistaken! Secondly that the broncos don’t fully believe in their starting quarterback Kyle Orton. Quinn will have a chance to prove he is a starter in the NFL during the upcoming training camp! My feeling is that Quinn will beat out Orton for the starting job and have decent success next year!
